Chef Troy Guard is taking over the now shuttered Sunnyside Burger Bar to rebrand and reopen as TAG Burger Bar. The 15 month old casual eatery launched on the former site of Longo's Pizza under the direction of Guard, but not under his brand. The chef, whose flagship restaurants include LoDo's TAG and Downtown's Guard & Grace, is on his second go-around at such rebrands: Over three years ago, after he consulted on Madison Street, he took over the Congress Park spot and turned into the first location of TAG Burger Bar.
Now, a second location is emerging through a similar process at 3759 Lipan Street. The opening date is January 21. Similar to the original location, the menu brings popular items like the (house-cured) pastrami nachos; daily specials, mac-n-cheese with Cheez-Its and Goldfish crackers, and deep fried Oreos, plus, of course, a hefty selection of burgers, beers, and boozy adult shakes & floats.
TAG Burger Bar #2 will be open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m, Monday through Friday, serving lunch and dinner. The restaurant will be open for dinner from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturdays, and 4 p.m to 9 p.m. on Sundays. Brunch is slated to launch in the Spring, along with the opening of the outdoor patio.
This new development in the growth of the Guard restaurant empire means that the Highland space formerly slated to become TAG Burger Bar will have a different faith. Details will be shared as they become available.
