Move Over Cronut: EDGE Introduces the Whoanut

It's like a waffle and a doughnut had a sweet baby

Caitlin Roth

On the heels of Sweets Week, a week-long celebration of all things dessert that took place across the Eater universe, and in celebration of Halloween, here's a quick look at the Whoanut.

The what, you say? This new creative dessert is a hybrid of two breakfast favorites, the waffle and the doughnut, hence the word combo in its name. In many ways inspired by the cronut, a blockbuster dessert that fused a croissant and a doughnut, this local spin-off is made with brown butter doughnut dough and cooked in a waffle iron. Pastry chef Ryan Schmitt, the creator of the treat, fills the Whoanut with vanilla custard and caramelizes the top with sugar. He turns it into a work of art by adding white wine-poached pears and crystalized cranberries.

You too can get a taste of the dessert at EDGE, the posh restaurant and steakhouse located in Downtown at the Four Seasons Hotel.
