Aoba Sushi Bites the Dust in LoDo

The restaurant shuttered its Blake Street home

Official Website

Four year old Aoba Sushi closed its doors last week, Westword reported. The quaint Japanese-inspired eatery located at 1520 Blake Street was helmed by chef Ken Zheng, a Denver transplant with twenty years of experience in sushi eateries who made it here from Tokyo and New York. Aoba served traditional sushi and other Japanese dishes that honored quality ingredients and also brought some creativity into the process. There's no word yet on what will happen with the space.

While this restaurant closed its doors, there is no shortage of sushi in LoDo in particular and in Denver in general. For those seeking a quick fix nearby, there is Blue Sushi & Sake (just around the corner) and Hapa Sushi(next door). Outside of the LoDo area, the Mile High City recently added famed Matsuhisa in Cherry Creek, Sushi Ronin in LoHi, and Sushi Rama in RiNo. In the next few months, look for more Sushi RamasMizu Izakaya, and a brick and mortar for Bamboo Sushi.
