Sneak Peek Into Retrograde's Creative Upcoming Cocktail Menu

Bar manager Ben Carrington pushes the boundaries with drinks that will make you come back

One of the most exciting openings of 2016 is Retrograde, a speakeasy-style bar hidden behind the door of a cooler inside Frozen Matter. The passionate bar team, led by Ben Carrington, strives to create drinks that inspire and please their patrons. Carrington gave Eater a preview of his new menu along with descriptions and photos captured by Eater photographer Ryan Dearth.

Here's what you'll find:

* A hot chocolate for adults with fresh whip cream and mint liquor, to embrace the season, like thin mints for grown-ups.

* A sparking rosé-forward cocktail that brings together flavors of water and spring, light and refreshing and accented with flamed thyme to add spice, a fun example of the use of wine in cocktails.

*A rum-centric flip that plays on the traditional Puerto Rican egg nog, coquito. There is a whole egg and an original blend of spices.

*A bespoke scotch cocktail, simple and seductive, that shares warm peat flavors mixed with hints of peach.

* A Manhattan variation that gives overproof rye subtleness with the addition of vermouth.
