When it opened in the summer of 2014, Dorchester Social Eatery was opulent in its decor and full of culinary ambition. The 70-seat restaurant, originally helmed by Michel Wahaltere (formerly of Gisella and Aspen's Campo de Fiori group) had planned an internationally inspired menu and a bar program that included craft cocktails, regional microbrews, and seasonally rotating specials.
But Wahaltere soon left, the menu was given one last hopeless overhaul, and soon without announcements, pomp or circumstance, only Privé at Dorchester remained active in the space located at 1334 15th Street. A nightclub, Privé self-describes as a "modern speakeasy." The late-night hangout launched soon after Dorchester opened and it is currently operating only on Fridays and Saturdays from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m.
