A lonely Los Angeles outpost remains open.

Brainchild of Tom Ryan, founder of the upscale burger chain SmashBurger and Tom's Urban, Live Basil Pizza launched in Denver in May, 2013 at 6305 E Hampden Road.

Going for the the upscale fast casual pizza market, Live Basil opened several locations over the following 18 months, from Stapleton to Lakewood, Federal Heights, and South Colorado Boulevard. In January 2015, Live Basil went out of state with a California outpost at L.A. LIVE's Sports and Entertainment District

All locations but that Los Angeles spot have shuttered as the company focuses on growing the Tom's Urban concept. A statement from Live Basil follows below:

As an incubator concept company, we are constantly innovating our portfolio of brands and accelerating the growth of those brands and locations that are prospering. Our Tom’s Urban brand is really resonating with guests and developers, so we have decided to focus our resources on growing this brand right now. While we did close the Live Basil Pizza locations in Denver, the Los Angeles location will continue to serve our freshly made pizzas and will remain open. We truly thank the Denver community for their continued support.
