Opened in February in the Ballpark neighborhood, Aloy Modern Thai received two stars in the latest Denver Post review. With a modern sleek look, the restaurant owned by sisters Bo Bean and Arisa Chanchokpong pleased critic Bill Porter with dishes like the smoked Verlasso salmon, an "artful and refreshing" green papaya salad, and an umami-filled duck roll. While Porter was underwhelmed by the green curry chicken, he called the Massaman rack of lamb "stellar."
A funky diner and bar, the Derby Grille, was reviewed by the Daily Camera. Set off Berthoud's main drag, this classic American roadhouse received three stars for food and three for service with two for ambiance. Although perpetually busy, the staff at the spot is friendly and attentive, critic Clay Fong remarked. Portions are large, value is good, and simplicity is king here.
