The expansive 11,000 square foot 16th Street Mall spot that has opened in 20008 served its last Guiness, according to the Denver Business Journal. A sign placed on a window on May 12 announced the closure of the restaurant and bar.
The shutter follows the filing for Chapter 11 reorganization bankruptcy by the bar's parent company, Northwest Bars Inc. At the time of the filing in January, Katie Mullen's intended to remain open and be reorganized. However, a post on the bar's Facebook thanked the community for "a good run" and invited patrons to visit Katie Eiles, another Northwest Bar Irish pub and restaurant, in Westminster.
The retail space attached to the Sheraton Denver Downtown will return to Chartres Lodging Group LLP, the building's landlord which owns the Sheraton. An earlier agreement reaches allows Katie Mullen's to remain in the space, rent-free, until June 6.
