Former BSide Home Becomes Hamburger Mary's

The gay-friendly chain will return to Denver

Mile High Hamburger Mary's

Hamburger Mary's was a staple of Uptown for a decade until a franchise dispute made the group behind the Denver outpost rethink their options. They rebranded at the end of last year without many other changes and have continued to run the bar as M Uptown.

But for a group of five restaurant veterans, it wasn't enough. Those five are bringing the franchise back, the Denver Post reported, and they are making that happen just down the street in a place that housed The BSide. A fried chicken and beer emporium, The BSide, located at 1336 E 17th Avenue, shuttered last August after barely one year in business.

A remodel is underway to create a Hamburger Mary's with a sports twist, a venue that will be gay sports bar. Some 21 high-definition TVs, plus some vintage sports paraphernalia are lining the interior bar and quirky elements, picked up from thrift shops and antique store, will decorate the walls. One such thing is a framed picture of a cat in a hamburger bun. There will be a stage in the dining area for the times when drag bingo, karaoke, and variety shows are happening.

Expect the venue to open in early September.
