Death & Co, the premier decade old New York City bar, will launch its second outpost in Denver inside the Ramble Hotel in RiNo. The acclaimed team will rule over the lobby bar, handle the room service program, run a café bar providing coffee and breakfast services, and handle the food and booze in the hotel's courtyard. A reservation-only private bar, which most resembles the original location, will also be part of the package.
"This is the first time we have expanded our brand in the ten years since we opened our place in the East Village," David Kaplan, one of the Death & Co owners said, "and we could not think of a better place to do that than in Denver, inside this hotel. It is also great that we are making this move as we celebrate a decade in business," he added.
Located at 2450 Larimer Street, the Ramble is the brainchild of Gravitas Development Group, a Denver firm that has most recently developed 25th & Larimer, a mixed-use complex made entirely of shipping containers, where Work & Class, Cart Driver, and Port Side are housed.
"This project is about believing in a vision, taking risks and challenging the conventional hospitality model," said Ryan Diggins of Gravitas. "Remaining independently branded and managed provides us with the best chance to evolve at the speed of Denver. We place a very high value on flexibility and autonomy, and feel it gives The Ramble Hotel the best opportunity to remain culturally relevant, not only for the opening, but for years to come."
It was Diggins who reached out to the Death & Co group and asked if they would be interested in opening a place in Denver. "We knew this was the right fit very quickly because of our shared approach and philosophy," David Kaplan explained. "The way the hotel is planned, the integration of our expanded services in every facet of the guest experience, that gives us the chance to show off the DNA of Death & Co as far as hospitality goes, much beyond just cocktails," he added.
The café bar planned for the hotel lobby, along with expanded food service, is new territory to the group, but they are excited to nerd out about coffee beans and coffee drinks.
The team behind Death & Co, Proprietors LLC almost brought its cocktails to Denver a year ago in the basement space at the now-shuttered Wurstkuche. That deal, however, came in the form of a consulting contract whereas now Death & Co is branded, owned, and operated by the same people behind the famed New York City bar.
The Ramble, which will house one additional to-be-announced restaurant, will open in the winter of 2017.
