Mackinzie's, a new neighborhood bar and eatery, will open in the coming weeks in Jefferson Park in the space that most recently housed Amass. Owned by Debbie Rens, the future venue will focus on wines from all over the world, but will also serve craft cocktails, beer, and a compatible food menu that will round out the beverage program.

"We are a neighborhood spot where guests can get things like oysters on the half shell, pates, cheese and charcuterie plates, to pair with their wine or other drinks," Rens shared. She is launching this project in collaboration with her former son-in-law, who is a sommelier, and naming it after her granddaughter, Mackinzie.

The team hopes to have the business located at 2240 Clay Street up and running for the weekend after Labor Day. On the menu will be a variety of small plates and appetizers, most of them dictated by what is in season, as well as sandwiches and salads. To start out, service will only cover the evening hours and weekend brunches but Rens is hoping that lunch will also be added in the near future.
