On August 28, Richard Sandoval's thirteen year old Zengo will close its doors to undergo a large-scale renovation and menu change. A new design by Dubai's LW Design Group will debut in late September or early October alongside a new food and drink menu. Zengo has outposts in both Dubai and Doha and is ready to incorporate modern design elements from those locations into the Mile High outpost.
The remodel will bring a different way of entering the restaurant: a pivot door that will lead guests under an open timber slot ceiling, filled with sculptural origami birds in flight. A ceviche counter, robata grill, and main bar will extend along the windows, and the dining area will be encased in an oversized bird cage. Other design elements include concrete floors with subtle metallic veining offset by walnut wood, antique cabinets, brushed bras, and a charcoal and blue color palette.
On the new menu, there will be sashimi, ceviches, dim sum, including short rib dumplings and prawns; curry dishes; grilled entrees, including Patagonian Toothfish and Canadian lobster; wok dishes; and much more. On the booze side, hand-muddled cocktails, as well as an extensive collection of Latin and Asian spirits complement the menu.
The relaunch will be accompanied by a grand opening party the details of which have yet to be announced.
