The wildly popular Ohana Island Kitchen, a Hawaiian-inspired window counter that opened in June in LoHi found a permanent home. The eatery will launch a brick and mortar operation at the end of next month in the former Jay's Patio Cafe space at 2563 15th Street, basically across the street from its current annex space at The Truffle Table.
A lease has been signed and renovations are currently under way at the LoHi spot. The space is not huge, a mere 1,000 feet of which half is the kitchen, but seating will be provided for about 20 guests inside and plenty of patio space will be available, offering additional seating.
Owners Louie and Regan Colburn are excited to have access to a full kitchen with a hood and open flame, a situation that will give them the chance to expand the menu. What should you look forward to? For one, loco moco, the classic Hawaiian comfort food that combines white rice, a hamburger patty, a fried egg, and brown gravy. There will be more variety in the poke bowls offered, breakfast will be added to the line-up, and seven days a week service will be possible. Come spring, Hawaiian shaved ice will also be served.
Look for updates on the space in mid to late October.
