By the end of September, Jefferson Park will get a new brewery and eatery: Briar Common Brewery + Eatery at 2298 Clay Street. Owned by brothers Kent, Greg and Travis Dawson, the upcoming venue will bring classic beer styles while doing just the opposite with the food, a program that aims to be more daring than the regular brewery-friendly chicken wings and sandwiches.
The menu does have a burger, but it is made with a house-ground patty (beef + bacon), mushroom catsup, bread and butter pickled watermelon radish, goat cheese, Bibb lettuce, seared pork belly, and served on a brioche bun. Other dishes include things like the hickory-smoked portobello carpaccio with pepitas, chile oil, brassica pesto, and scallops with spicy Thai salad.
For the beers, enthusiasts should expect the spot to open with an American porter, a saison, an American pale ale, and a Belgian dubbel, among others.
The space has two bars, upstairs and downstairs, a patio and a fabulous view of Jefferson Park.
