Black Eye Coffee Cap Hill served its final cup on Sunday. The shop had operated for two years of business at 820 Sherman Street.

The Capitol Hill shop was the second location for the business. The original LoHi Black Eye will continue to operate at 3408 Navajo Street.

Earlier this fall, Black Eye Coffee’s owners hinted at business struggles when they discontinued dinner and bar service at White Lies, the Cap Hill cafe’s nighttime concept.

303 Magazine reports that issues such as rent, staffing, and vision for the space ultimately led to its downfall.

“Closing was a potential that we were trying to avoid but we just couldn’t get the operating capital we were seeking for it to make sense,” co-owner Dustin Audet tells 303.

The opening of Black Eye’s Cap Hill coffee shop, along with White Lies’ debut, seemed promising early on to reviewers, but ownership and direction shifted over the two years.

Black Eye LoHi will continue to serve breakfast, lunch, and weekend brunch, as well as wine and beer.
