Coming next month to one of Denver’s best little food pockets is the New Orleans-based Superfood Bar, a raw, vegan, and whole foods grab-and-go shop.

Superfood Bar will open at 1541 Platte Street in mid-November. The space was previously occupied by Eat + Drink cheese shop, which closed in February. This new vegan and gluten-free eatery will add smoothies, cold-pressed juices, salads, and wraps to Platte Street’s existing food and beverage offerings.

“It’s just a fantastic little area,” says Superfood Bar’s owner Joseph Stone. Currently in the process of moving from New Orleans to Boulder, Stone calls his business expansion a “homecoming of sorts.” Now 47, he grew up in the South with hippie parents and has spent most of his life working in the food and restaurant industries.

When, on a road trip more than 25 years ago, he stopped in Boulder, the health-conscious town “kinda blew my mind,” Stone says. He opened Superfood on New Orleans’ Magazine Street in 2010 and has watched similar concepts sprout up across the globe since then.

Superfood Bar’s menu is made almost entirely from scratch, with some raw and some cooked options. From drinks to sandwiches, everything is nutrient dense, and “incidentally vegan,” which Stone says he is less concerned about than serving food that is healthy and accessible. Smoothies and juices start at $6; nothing on the menu is more than $10.

Once Superfood Bar opens, it will operate from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
