The Barteca Restaurant Group, which already debuted Bartaco in Boulder over the summer, is now hiring staffers comfortable with working in an open kitchen at its soon-to-debut Barcelona Wine Bar.
The 5,203-square-foot Spanish tapas bar will land inside the former home of dog day care facility Barkway at 2900 Larimer St., between Crema Coffee House and Ratio Beerworks.
Owners Andy Pforzheimer and Sasa Mahr-Batuz have expanded the Barcelona concept to 15 locations across six states since 1996, each promising its own spin on an adventurous base menu and stocking more than 400 different wines. Chefs at each location create 60 to 70 percent of their own dishes and each locale features its own individual style and interior design.
Inspired by “unusual specialties from Spain and the Mediterranean” and serving spins on what they call “simple, rustic, authentic food,” previous Barcelona restaurants have featured charcuterie selections, tapas choices including jamón and cheese croquettes, Drunken Goat a la Plancha, and chorizo with sweet and sour figs, salads and shared plates including a whole branzino or paella.
An exact opening date has yet to be announced.
