Vero Italian Puts French Fries on This Outrageous Pizza

Someone finally made the perfect food

Have you ever eaten pizza and thought it was maybe missing something? An unusual topping we hadn't thought of yet? Maybe you couldn't quite put your finger on it. Well, pizzaiolo Neko Dagger at Vero could and did: he put french fries on pizza.

"He actually was making this pizza for himself for a few weeks," explains chef Mario Pacheco, " and then [owner] Andrea Frizzi tried it and it reminded him of one of his favorite pizzas in Milan. We did it as a special and it did so well that we decided to add it to our daily menu."

The pizza starts out with the classic dough and sauce, and gets topped with san marzano tomato, fresh mozzarella and gorgonzola. After two or three minutes in the wood-fired oven, the magic happens—they get french fries from SK Provisions next door and give the pizza another minute in the oven to crisp it all together.

"We sell at least 10 each day. It reads a little odd on the menu and think people may see it as a novelty pizza. But it's made with such great ingredients, that it's solid. Everybody loves it and is glad they ordered it," says Mario.

He also says it's the Italian version of cheese fries. Sauce instead of ketchup, mozzarella instead of cheddar. "I think it's the best version of cheese fries out there," he says with a smile.

It won't stay on the menu too much longer, as they are switching things up in the spring. So get it now, every day at Vero until 8 p.m.
