Korean Fried Chicken From SF’s Deuki Hong Brings the Crowds Out to RiNo

The little three hour pop up that could

It was a quick trip to Denver for San Francisco chef Deuki Hong who had a full house on Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at his Sunday Bird pop-up at the RiNo Yacht Club. Hong made the trek to the Mile High City to participate in a 4/20 centric dinner that included chefs Hosea Rosenberg of Blackbelly, Alex Seidel of Fruition and Mercantile Dining & Provision, and Kelly Whitaker of Basta and to host the three hour pop up pictured here.

A line quickly formed on Friday morning at the Source for the Korean fried chicken (and kimchi fried rice) lunch. Hong, a Culinary Institute of America graduate who has cooked under famed chefs that include Momofuku’s David Chang and three-Michelin star holder Jean George Vongerichten, had a simple agenda: Share the flavors of his eatery, Sunday Bird, and subtly introduce Denverites to his book, the New York Times Best Seller Koreatown: A Cookbook.

Eater contributor Lucy Beaugard captured the scenes from the event.
