The mix of restaurants planned at Zeppelin Station, the 100,000 food hall and office space set to open at 3501 Wazee Street this fall, just got a little sweeter. Fior Gelato will be opening its third Colorado location alongside the previously announced Aloha Poke Co. and a number of other as-yet-unnamed restaurants.
Fior Gelato began life as a wholesale company almost ten years ago. Owners Bryce and Giulia Licht have since expanded with two retail shops, at 1433 Pearl Street and 1021 Pearl Street. The gelateria is known for its upscale and nontraditional flavors, such as strawberry pink peppercorn and blueberry mascarpone cheesecake.
Keen-eyed readers will note that Fior Gelato sounds awfully similar to another Boulder gelato company, Fior di Latte. The two are, in fact, one. The Lichts changed the name of their company earlier this year. “It was a bit of a mouthful,” Bryce said. “People were mostly just calling us Fior anyways.”
The Lichts are also bringing bring along a new version of an old favorite from their farmers market days. The Zeppelin Station location will serve gelato sandwiches, a southern Italian treat made with a scoop of gelato inside a fried brioche bun.
Fior Gelato joins an increasingly competitive and diverse field of ice cream shops in Denver. The new Thai-style Chaos and Cream has developed a following out of The Source and LoHi mainstay Little Man Ice Cream is steadily expanding, so there is clearly a hunger for more cold treats in Mile High.
Disclosure: The editor is married to one of the developers behind Zeppelin Station, the development in which Fior Gelato will reside.
