The day has come for Blue Pan Pizza to open its second location in Congress Park. Located at 3509 East 12th Avenue, the deep-dish, Detroit-style pizzeria starts service tonight and will be open for business daily for dinner only starting at 4 p.m.
Not as crammed for space as at the original location, owners Jeff Smokevitch and Giles Flanagin added a couple of food items and widened the beer and wine selection too.
The venue is not just great for pizza lovers but a good development for a neighborhood where walking is easy and the restaurant options have been slim. In the last 9 months, the commercial area around 12th and Madison gained Sweet Cooie’s, the whimsical soda-shop-like ice cream parlor, 12@Madison, a contemporary American restaurant from chef Jeff Osaka, and now Blue Pan Pizza. These options add to the already popular TAG Burger Bar, a family-friendly eatery from chef Troy Guard.
