A fixture on the corner of South University Boulevard and East Exposition Avenue for forty years, the Campus Lounge is finally close to a return after a year of remodels.
Jim Wiste operated the dive bar until his retirement, when a team including developer St. Charles Town Co., restaurateur Dan Landes, and chef Chris Medved from Ace/Secret Sauce took over, promising to keep some of the dive bar aesthetic and all of the vintage flavor, but bring the facility up to code.
Overcoming a series of unforeseen building issues, one year later, the lounge is now hiring and announcing an October debut, with a new look, transforming it into a fun, food focused, neighborhood joint.
The interior has been gutted and brought back to life, but the exterior signage has been restored and kept intact.
Landes is also the operator of City O’ City on Capitol Hill and revealed to Denver Metro Media back in April that the lounge would feature an open kitchen serving “fun and contemporary” dishes, “snacks” and even include a kids’ menu.
