The 2018 Good Food Awards were handed out over the weekend, and six Colorado producers took home medals. Awards were given across 15 categories, from beer to pickles, and they highlighted 199 national companies that work to create “vibrant, delicious, sustainable local food economies,” according to the program’s founding nonprofit The Good Food Foundation. Honorees were handed awards by chef Alice Waters and entrepreneur and activist Nell Newman (founder of Newman’s Own Organics). The winners’ products will now be labeled with Good Food seals that “assure consumers they have found something exceptionally delicious which also supports sustainability and social good.”

Colorado producers won in the categories of cider, charcuterie, elixirs, coffee, and spirits. The local winners are Elevation Charcuterie and Artisan Meats for Calabrese; Big B’s Hard Cider for Grand Cru Ciaison and Chester Hoppearcot; Stem Ciders for Colorado Heritage Blend; Ozo Coffee Roasters for Ethiopia Hambela Kirite; Dram Apothecary for Pine Syrup; and Deerhammer Distillery for American Single Malt. Check each business’ website for information on where to buy the winning products. Elevation Meats, Stem Ciders, and Ozo Coffee are based in the Denver area, while Big B’s Cider, Dram, and Deerhammer sell at area restaurants, bars, and specialty stores.
