This Big Patio Is Bigger Than Most But Not the Biggest in Denver

Still, a beer garden, food trucks, and lawn games are all inside Improper City’s very large outdoor area

A 12,000-square-foot food truck park and beer garden is coming to RiNo at Improper City

One of RiNo’s newer adult playgrounds is debuting a patio this weekend, and, just to be clear, it’s a pretty big one. Weighing in at 12,000 square feet, Improper City’s beer garden fits fire pits, an Astroturf yard, and multiple food trucks. For the grand opening, happening all day Friday through Sunday, it will also squeeze in a pig roast, live music, yoga, and puppies.

Improper City opened in July at 32nd and Walnut streets, next door to Movement Climbing + Fitness gym. In the same complex, visitors can work out, co-work, catch a live show, grab coffee, and drink alcohol until midnight. The creators of this community space are also behind Boulder’s Rayback Collective, which has become quite a gathering spot.

For some size comparison, last year RiNo Beer Garden opened a big-by-most-standards patio (4,000 square feet) at 38th and Walnut Streets. That place has a superlative number of big-screen TVs (18) as well as beers on tap (60). But then Punch Bowl Social opened at Stapleton’s old air traffic control tower, and leave it to P.B.S. to outdo everyone. The restaurant/bowling alley/arcade/karaoke bar/backyard party features an Astroturf-filled “swimming pool,” which no one knew a 14,000-square-foot patio needed.

While it’s still warm outside, curious what other over-the-top (in size and spirit) patios are out there? Here are a few, and here, a few others.
