South Broadway haunt The Hornet was damaged this afternoon after a driver rammed his car into the restaurant.

A male driver swerved into the northern corner of the casual, all-American restaurant around 12:45 p.m. Wednesday, hitting one pedestrian and shocking customers and staff, according to the restaurant’s manager, Laura Banning.

“Luckily, everyone is OK,” Banning said. The passerby walked away without injuries, according to the restaurant manager. She added that the driver did not appear to be under the influence of alcohol. Banning said restaurant customers were shook up by the incident, with one saying the accident sounded like a “bomb going off.” Two police officers were dining at the restaurant at the time of the accident and able to assist.

The Hornet’s windows and patio door were damaged by the crash. The restaurant’s planned “Single’s Awareness Day” party for Valentine’s Day this evening will go on as scheduled.
