For a fancy brunch: Frasca Food and Wine
It’s the first weekend of summer, so a next-level brunch is in order. Frasca kicks off its summer brunch series on Sunday, June 24, with a two-course brunch menu that doesn’t have just any avocado toast on the menu, but avocado toast capped with Sturia caviar. At $60 it’s pricey; but considering the Instagram value of caviar-topped avocado toast, it’s a steal.
For a quick lunch: Empanada Express Grill
What Empanada Express Grill lacks in atmosphere, it more than makes up for in tasty, grilled arepas and crispy empanadas. Locked and loaded with sweet plantains, tender carnitas, roasted poblanos, and 15 or so other fillings, these Venezuelan delicacies are addictive. (And with most costing less than $5 a pop, it’s an affordable addiction.)
For a casual dinner: Black Bear Diner
The burning question of what sort of restaurant will replace the now-defunct Quaker Steak & Lube diner in Westminster has been answered, and it’s… another diner. Black Bear Diner, a California-based chain that cooks up old-fashioned comfort foods, just opened its first Denver-area location. Check it out for chicken-fried steak, all-day breakfast, and cobblers galore.
For dessert: Rebel Girl Bakery
Popping up at Black Eye Coffee in LoHi on Saturday, June 23, from 2 to 5 p.m., Rebel Girl Bakery will please even the most discerning sweet tooth. Don’t miss the stowaway cookie (made with four types of chocolate and butterscotch), old-school frosted circus animal cookies, and Persian love cakes with rose and pistachio. Gluten-free and vegan treats are also available.
For drinks: White Pie
June is coming to a close, which means White Pie’s month-long, buy-one-get-one frosé deal will soon be over. And because two frosés are always better than one, it’s a good idea to get over there now. Oh, and the New Haven pizza is pretty stellar, too.
