While Denver lately is seeing a slew of modern deli openings, this one might have slipped under the radar. Gorgeous Deli is operating all summer and into fall from a walk-up window on the side of The Truffle Table, 2556 15th Street. The temporary LoHi lunch shop faces Umatilla Street with a pink painted window and a picnic table out front.
Gorgeous serves a few sandwiches, sides, and salads each day, including a Sun Prairie Colorado pastrami and a smoked beet with lemon garlic tahini. Chef and owner Jerome Skaggs opened the pop-up after years working and learning about ingredients in New York restaurants. For this small operation, he sources from area farmers markets and changes the menu daily to reflect what’s in season. A new bacon sandwich and summer slaw both incorporate Palisade peaches. A pesto potato salad is made with baby Yukons, basil, Swiss chard, and walnuts. Down the line, Skaggs hopes to open an all-day concept in Denver in line with London’s Ottolenghi empire.
For now, Gorgeous Deli is open from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday, behind The Truffle Table. It also pops up from 4 to 9:30 p.m. Fridays at SloHi’s Hog’s Head Brewery.
