Denverites will once again need to pour one out for another departing Denver bar as Barricuda’s Restaurant and Lounge, the classic Capitol Hill haunt that developed a devoted following thanks to cheap beer, daily brunch, and quirky events like Sexy Jesus karaoke, is closing next weekend after 25 years.
Westword was the first to report Friday afternoon that Barricuda’s had posted the following message announcing the closure to its Facebook page:
Barricuda’s will be closing it’s doors on November 3rd. It’s been our pleasure to serve and be a part of the Capitol Hill community for 25 years. We will be having great specials during our last weekend, and a customer-employee appreciation party on our last night of business. Details will be posted soon. We want to thank you for all of your support over the years, and please feel free to share your favorite memories with us on our page, or come in and share them with us in person.
By 5:30 p.m., the post had reached over 130 comments, including many from Denverites sharing their appreciation for Barricuda’s.
“I have many happy memories of late night or late morning meals here,” wrote commenter Scott Hanson. “I really loved the convenience, staff, and food. I loved the oasis of [it being] open late when nothing else was around the neighborhood at night.’
Other commenters, however, also bemoaned the loss of another longstanding watering hole. Its a been a busy years for such closures in Denver as downtown’s Shelby’s, LoDo’s El Charrito, and Governor’s Park’s Govnr’s Park all closed their doors within the past 12 months.
“What!? This was my home away from home for years until I moved across town,” Julie Black commented. “Denver isn’t Denver without Barricuda’s!”
Located in a strip mall at 1076 Ogden Street, Barricuda’s is also known for its late-night menu of burgers, burritos, and bar snacks, which it serves until 1 a.m.
Eater called Barricuda’s for more information about the reason for the closure but the call was not answered.
