Good old-fashioneds, crullers, and jellies now have some new-school competition in the form of whiskey and CBD doughnuts. They’re being made by robots and selling at Denver’s newest Carbon Cafe and Habit Dispensary, 2200 California Street. This second location of the Platte Street bar and coffee shop/doughnut stop opened this week in Five Points next door to Woods Boss Brewing.
The combined spaces live in a 118-year-old service garage and together offer coffee, cocktails, all-day food, brioche doughnuts, and craft beers on tap. Customers at Woods Boss can order food from Carbon’s menu of burgers, bowls, and salads. Carbon diners can choose from casual bar seating as well as a chef’s counter.
With the help of a doughnut-making machine (read robot), Habit can pump out as many as 450 doughnuts per hour. Some of them are straightforward — maple nut, malted milk glaze — while others are filled with CBD (cannabidiol) cold brew or whiskey. Soothing or spiked, the doughnuts are sold all day and throughout most of the night.
Status: Habit Doughnut Dispensary and Carbon Cafe are now open daily at 2200 California Street. Hours are 7 a.m. to midnight Sunday-Thursday and 7 a.m. to 2 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Find more information and doughnut menus on the website.
