Portland, Oregon-based doughnut purveyors Voodoo Doughnut expands its Denver footprint with a new location at 98 S. Broadway soon.

Voodoo with its cake, yeast, and specialty doughnuts opened in 2013 with long lines at the pink swaddled location at 1520 E. Colfax.

The Voodoo Doughnut legend started in 2003, when co-founders Tres Shannon and Kenneth “Cat Daddy” Pogson launched the business in Portland. Shannon lived in Denver for a while and decided to expand to the Mile High City.

Classic Voodoo irreverent specialties include the “cock-n-balls” shaped raised yeast doughnut that’s triple filled with Bavarian cream and topped with chocolate frosting; the Memphis Mafia with banana chunks and cinnamon covered in glaze, drizzled in chocolate and peanut butter, with peanuts and chocolate chips on top; and the vegan School Daze “PB&J” filled with raspberry jelly, and topped with peanut butter and a side dip of peanuts.

Raised yeast varieties include the Dirt with vanilla frosting and Oreo cookies; Old Dirty Bastard with chocolate frosting, Oreo cookies, and peanut butter; the Loop with vanilla frosting and Fruit Loops; and Oh Captain, My Captain with vanilla frosting and Captain Crunch. Cake options include Tangfastic with vanilla frosting, Tang, and three marshmallows; Marshall Mathers with vanilla frosting and mini M&M’s; the Ring of Fire with a chocolate cake doughnut dusted in cinnamon sugar, cayenne pepper, and topped with a dried red chili pepper; and the Triple Chocolate Penetration with a chocolate cake doughnut with chocolate frosting and Cocoa Puffs.

The 24-hour doughnut shop, which is currently hiring, takes over the former Famous Pizza space that closed last year after 45 years.
