LoDo’s 1515 Restaurant and its Rewind Lounge from chef Gene Tang closes after 21 years in business on May 31.
The contemporary American steakhouse with its white tablecloths specializes in wagyu beef, elk tenderloins, rabbit and rattlesnake sausage, cherries jubilee flambe, and Elvis’ chocolate terrine with banana pastry cream, peanut butter, and bacon powder.
For 15 years, the restaurant landed on Wine Spectator’s list of best wine restaurants with a roster of 700-plus wines, and in 2016 hosted Denver’s James Beard Celebrity Chef Tour dinner. In 2017, he landed in the Colorado Restaurant Association’s Food Service Hall of Fame.
Tang, who spent 48 years in the restaurant industry, plans to retire after the final dinner. He first opened Cafe Potpourri with his wife Paula in 1985, closing it in 1996 to open 1515 Restaurant in 1997.
