The Willy Wonka of Denver returns this Saturday with a dessert shop and entertainment emporium in SloHi. Chef Ian Kleinman, who specializes in molecular desserts, reopens The Inventing Room Dessert Shop, his eccentric sweet spot, with a new roster of treats.

Kleinman still offers his liquid nitrogen molecular treats including a Harry Potter-inspired tasting menu option that will include a butter beer float topped with exploding whipped cream. A Wonka-inspired grab-and-go candy station includes the Gobstopper-inspired “Gobblepop” suckers and edible wallpaper, inspired from the scene just outside the door of “The Inventing Room” in the 1971 Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory movie.

The Inventing Room also plans to kickstart its monthly themed pop-up dinner, Gobblefunk Dinner, for 16.

The Denver-based chef has made a name for himself through molecular gastronomy. At The Inventing Room Dessert Shop, he makes his own candies, ice creams, and sodas, all with science-experiment twists.

Once back in business, the dessert shop plans to to be open Thursday through Sunday from 2 to 10 p.m.

Kleinman said the closure last November was due to a difficult year for the business.
