The celebration known as Negroni Week descends on Denver (and cities around the country) June 5 - 11, as bars throughout the city will present their best variations on the classic Italian cocktail, originally made of one part gin, one part Campari, and one part vermouth.
In its fifth year, the event encourages bars to introduce patrons to the bittersweet beverage in unique variations. Adaptations, such as barrel-aged and sparkling, or trades out the gin entirely for other spirits – such as vodka or bourbon, resulting in a boulevardier are the norm. Those who create the drinks select a charity wherein all proceeds from the week-long event go.
In Denver, kick-off starts Monday at 6:30 p.m. at Nocturne where four artisan Negronis and small bites will be served by an all-star squad of local bartenders, including Topher Hartfield and Adrift’s barman, Les Baker. Money made throughout the evening will go toward No Kid Hungry Colorado.
After that, these are our top nine suggestions for interesting takes on the boozy beverage about town, ordered geographically north to south.
