So Denverites can ditch the kitchen

Whether it’s a grand buffet in an Art Deco hotel dining room or a massive spread in the comfort of home, local restaurants have Denver diners covered for Thanksgiving. While traditionalists will find the turkey dinner of their dreams below, non-traditionalists — including vegetarians — also have options galore this year. To name just a few other interesting alternatives: Apple Blossom will be serving holiday brunch from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Lincoln’s Roadhouse is cooking up turducken gumbo for the big day (call to order by November 19); Hinman Pie is hosting a pickup pop-up at Grange Food Hall through November 30; and So Damn Gouda is doing elaborate antipasto platters for a crowd November 22 through November 24.

It’s of note that Denver sits on the ancestral lands of the Arapaho, Cheyenne, and Ute tribes (the Cheyenne and Arapaho tribes are now federally recognized as one Nation); many ingredients in its restaurants this year have Indigenous origins but are often served without context or acknowledgment. Here are some ways you can directly support Indigenous communities this month and beyond.

Later this year, Concourse B will become home to Portland, Oregon’s Voodoo Doughnut and a branch of homegrown hit Rosenberg’s Bagels & Delicatessen, while contemporary Union Station destination Mercantile Dining & Provision will get a sibling in Concourse A. Come 2023, Concourse C will see outposts of a number of Denver favorites, including modern taco joint Mister Oso, Italian kitchen Bar Dough, upscale Asian spot ChoLon, and gourmet market Marczyk Fine Foods.
Celebrate the season with a sweet slice

It’s officially fall in Denver (even if it often doesn’t feel like it) and that means pie season. Although there’s plenty of pumpkin pies around, Denver’s pie game extends far beyond that seasonal favorite to more unique varieties like grasshopper and bourbon pecan.

So with temperatures getting colder and the holidays on the horizon, here are 12 of Denver’s best places to grab pie, whether you desire just a slice of apple or an entire key lime pie that is ready to serve.

A few will be easier for catching up over a beer, while a couple might be better for drowning out sorrows with music and dancing.
These Denver-based and mountain stopovers will satisfy seasonal cravings

Holiday treats have come a long way from the glühwein and fruitcake of yore. Across Denver and into the mountains, those looking for seasonal fare can find it in the form of a giant gingerbread house, a champagne cascade, and a wrapping paper-covered pop-up serving cocktails. Yes, all of these things exist to those who will pay for them.

Those looking to just people-watch can perch above the tree at Denver’s Union Station. Or be transfixed by the illuminated blossoms at the Botanic Gardens. And for those seeking an old-world experience, gather at the brand new downtown Flea Market. All of these activities come with cups of cocoa and spiked punch, fresh-baked cookies, holiday meals, or fancy candies. Remember, there are only a couple of weeks each year when this type of adult behavior is accepted.
